The season started well with victory in the 2009 Alan Holman Cup - the first time in ten years - beating Steeple Claydon 4-3 on penalties.
The final, played at Buckingham Town and delayed from the end of last season, was completed in unusual circumstances when the floodlights failed. With the game tied 0-0 after 70 minutes, only one floodlight came on, leaving the referee with no choice but to abandon the game.
After some discussion both teams agreed to finish the game with a penalty shoot out beneath the one remaining floodlight. After 5 penalties each the score was 3-3 and it went into sudden death. The Claydon goalie saved the first attempt but the referee ordered a retake as the goalkeeper had moved forward before the ball had been struck. On the second attempt Adam Perna kept his nerve and calmly slotted the ball home. Claydon then missed leaving us winners by 4-3 which finally put an end to Claydon's winning run over us.
George Butler Memorial Cup
On Saturday 21st November the two teams met again and in another close match Grendon again came out on top - this time 3-2. This was for both the first round of the Buckingham Charity Cup and also for possession of the George Butler Memorial Cup. The Memorial Cup is now in residence at The Swan.
With Grendon and Steeple also currently sharing the top positions in the North Bucks Premier Division, the rivalry looks set to continue for another season!
